The Lodge Blackford – Our commitment to the environment

The house still has most of the original ornamental wood panelling, and retains the original stained glass panels in two small windows and the inner front door. To help the owners to retain the original features of the house while improving energy efficiency and making best use of space, the property has been recently converted, creating two separate homes.

At The Lodge, because of our commitment to the environment, we want to make it easy for our guests to contribute to continuously improving the house’s energy efficiency and minimise effects on the environment.

The Lodge, which is now available for holiday lets, is the front part of the house comprising the public rooms and two bedrooms of the original house with a new barrier free shower room and modern kitchen. The Lodge has a new oil-fired central heating boiler and thermostatically controlled radiators in each room. The original windows have been retained and refurbished. Each window has curtains with thermal linings. Loft and underfloor insulation have been increased recently.

We reduce energy use, where we can, and we are careful not to use more water than we need, so we ask our guests to try to do the same, for example to check that the thermostats are not set higher than needed depending on the weather, the time of day and whether the rooms are in use or not, and to try not to leave taps running unnecessarily.

Our policy is to use environmentally friendly cleaning products and to recycle as much as we can. We provide information and bins to make it easy for our guests to separate materials for recycling.

We are taking advice from the Green Tourism Business Scheme, complying with environmental legislation, working to achieve best practice, and looking for ways to continuously reduce pollution, emissions and waste.

Thanks for your help.
